Services Provided at CFM-G:
Conveniently located across the street from the Center for Family Medicine, Greenville Memorial Hospital (GMH) is the flagship hospital of Prisma- Health Upstate and is the main academic teaching hospital. The hospital also houses the Prisma Health Children’s hospital which includes a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit, a large newborn nursery, and neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital is a level 1 trauma center and is also the only comprehensive stroke care center in the upstate and as such serves as a large tertiary referral care center.
Located less than a mile from the Center for Family Medicine is the Veterans Affairs Greenville outpatient clinic. All residents rotate through the VA clinic for a block in both the PGY1 and PGY2 years. Residents have the experience general medicine, subspecialty care, therapy services, and a unique home-visit program. This is an opportunity for significant procedural experience, as well as exposure to clinical opportunities available through outpatient VA health.
Located in downtown Greenville, residents provide care of adult patients from the Greenville county detention center periodically during the PGY2 and PGY3 years. Residents travel to the detention center once weekly during select rotations and see patients providing procedural care and medical consultation. Patients are also seen for hospital follow up after being discharged from our inpatient hospital service.
Prisma Health is actively engaged in finding innovative ways to reach the patients that need us the most. One such avenue is through the use of the Prisma Mobile Health Clinic (MHC). The MHC is a fully functioning mobile clinic that visits different communities with identified need to provide primary and urgent care services.
Staffed by a full-time Nurse Practitioner with oversight provided by the Departments of Family and Emergency Medicine, the mobile health clinic is in the community Monday through Thursday at rotating sites. Residents periodically rotate on the mobile health clinic during their PGY2 and PGY3 years. This is just one of the ways the Department of Family Medicine are working to actively manage the population health of patients in our community.
