About the Program

The Surgical Residency Training Program at GHS is a fully accredited five-year program. The combined surgical service handles approximately 300 admissions each month with an average daily census of 150 patients.

Each chief resident finishes the program with more than 1,100 cases as a surgeon and more than 200 as a teaching assistant or first assistant. Typical endoscopy experience is 200-250 cases.

Affiliations with the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville provide medical student rotations in general surgery. Additionally, more than 40 medical students from the University of South Carolina spend their entire third and fourth years of medical school at GHS, which serves as a clinical campus for the medical school.
