Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program

Our residency program, founded in 1976, is a fully accredited three year Internal Medicine Program offering an ideal blend of community-based primary care and academic tertiary care within the same program in the vibrant city of Greenville, SC.

Prisma Health is the largest not-for-profit health organization in South Carolina, serving more than 1.2 million patients annually. Prisma Health – Upstate, formerly known as Greenville Health System (GHS), is an academic health system committed to excellent healthcare delivery, workforce education and development, and patient-focused health services research. With seven campuses, 1,537 beds and over 1,100 employed physicians, Prisma Health-Upstate provides comprehensive health care functioning as both the safety net hospital and the major provider of specialty services in our region.

In 2012, The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville opened its doors on our campus. The UofSC School of Medicine Greenville has further enhanced the educational mission of our hospital system and has provided increasing opportunities for teaching and mentorship for our faculty and residents.

Most importantly, we have been fortunate to train exceptionally supportive and hard-working residents who graduate well-equipped to pursue careers in primary care, hospital medicine, and subspecialty fellowships. We pride ourselves on fostering progressive resident autonomy, and providing an environment that values providing excellent training and education as much as resident wellbeing.
