Medical School: Mercer University School of Medicine
Undergrad: University of West Georgia
Why I chose Greenville:
I immediately noticed the family atmosphere of the program in how familiar the residents were with each other, their attendings, and their program leadership (who everyone calls by their first names). It truly is a program that values resident wellness and work-life balance, while emphasizing resident education and personal career goals. In addition, the city of Greenville is beautiful with so many things to do and places to eat, so I knew I would never be without something fun to do or somewhere good to eat on my days off!

Why I chose Greenville:
As a medical student in Greenville, I noticed that the pediatric residents here worked incredibly well as a team and that both the residents and faculty always took the time to support each other when times got tough. Throughout the interview process, I found myself looking for that same type of support from both faculty and co-residents and discovered that the culture of support, laughter, and teamwork that I have found here is unmatched. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to complete my pediatric residency at Prisma Health Upstate!

Why I chose Greenville:
I chose Prisma Health – Upstate because I knew that I needed a supportive and uplifting environment. On interview day, the hilarious back and forth dialogue between the PD, APDs, and residents showed the genuine family-like relationships within the program. Now that I’ve started, I couldn’t have chosen a better place! The amount of support and positivity I’ve received has made the transition into residency as smooth as possible. I immediately felt like a part of the team. Our attendings have been very approachable and willing to teach. To me, it’s the perfect balance of an academic program with a community feel! AND we are right next to the beautiful and lively downtown Greenville. It’s a small city with endless activities to do, including delicious food and Broadway shows! I feel extremely lucky to be here!

Undergrad: Mississippi College
Why I chose Greenville:
The healthy relationships among the staff were a major draw to Greenville. There is a great culture of collaboration and problem solving here. I was impressed that many of the attendings work in multiple settings (e.g.- clinic, wards, and nursery) which encourages everyone to know each other, communicate well, and keep their pediatric skills sharp.

Medical School: USC School of Medicine Greenville
Undergrad: Wofford College
Why I chose Greenville:
I chose Greenville because of the amazing staff and working environment. This program showed me that they make very healthy and happy well-rounded pediatricians, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that culture! Everyone is so supportive of each other and I knew that having a good group of fellow residents and staff behind me would be essential to my residency education. Greenville as a city is also so welcoming and fun! There are always fun things to do on the weekends and new places to try throughout the city! It has a little bit of everything for everyone!

Medical School: Medical College of Georgia
Undergrad: Berry College
Why I chose Greenville:
I chose Prisma Health Greenville because it was one of the few places that I interviewed that I could tell the residents really enjoyed the program. You could tell that they worked hard, but at the same time they were a family and were there for each other. I knew that was the atmosphere which I wanted to spend my next three years. Also, I love the city of Greenville and how quickly you can be from the city and into the mountains enjoying nature. It has the best of both worlds.

McKenzie Montana, DO

McKenzie Montana, DO

Medical School: Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: The College of New Jersey
Why I chose Greenville:
Greenville felt so genuine to me! The relationships between staff and residents felt real. Everyone was on a first name basis and constantly making jokes at each other. They really showed how much they enjoyed being around each other. The residents also loved and raved about the program! They seemed to learn from amazing attendings and always stayed busy with interesting cases. Now that I am here I’ve seen how excited everyone is to have us and their willingness to help us succeed. Also downtown Greenville is incredible!!

Undergrad: University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Columbia
Why I chose Greenville:
Having to do virtual residency interviews was not ideal and extremely hard. When I got to my Prisma Health Upstate interview, it was a breath of fresh air! I was constantly laughing during the resident meet-and-greet and even more so with the program directors on interview day! Everyone made me feel so comfortable and at ease, which is exactly what I needed during such a stressful time. Another reason I chose Prisma Health Upstate was because of the awesome city of Greenville! There are so many things to do, and it seems like there is a new restaurant popping up every day.

Sam Schwartz, DO

Sam Schwartz, DO

Medical School: VCOM – Virginia
Undergrad: Virginia Tech
Why I chose Greenville:
Because green is my favorite color. I like frogs, grass, cactuses, granny smith apples, kiwis, green eggs and ham (Sam I Am) and green Skittles. I also like the Blue Ridge Mountains, the culture of the city, all the restaurants and outdoor opportunities. So it turns out I like the “ville” part of Greenville too. Oh yeah, and I was encouraged to heckle the Program Director during my interview so I knew these were my kind of people.

Medical School: Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University
Undergrad: UNC-Chapel Hill
Why I chose Greenville:
I chose USC-Greenville because I wanted to be part of a program that was small enough to provide a cohesive, family-like environment among colleagues, and large enough to offer a broad range of pediatric specialties. I wanted to surround myself with friends and mentors that value relationships both at work and in our personal lives. Additionally, Greenville is an ideal location for me, as I wanted to move closer to my family members living in NC, SC, and GA.

Why I chose Greenville:
I chose Prisma Health Upstate because of the people. Trying to assess a residency program virtually can be difficult. However, I immediately felt at ease with everyone I met during the meet-and-greet and on the day of my interview. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and I felt like they genuinely wanted to get to know me. It was the most fun that I experienced during interview season by far. Now that I’m here, everyone has exceeded my expectations. There is no shortage of support and encouragement. I’m so excited to be part of a program that feels like family!
