Pediatric Residency Program Application Process

The Prisma Health Upstate / U of SC School of Medicine Greenville Pediatric Residency Program accepts applications exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service for the National Residency Matching Program. Students interested in completing a visiting rotation in Greenville in addition to the residency application process may do so through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service. For more information on these rotations please see our Visiting Students page. The Department of Pediatrics welcomes all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, veteran status or sexual orientation.

Application Review and Interview Selection:

We know how many hours each of you invests preparing your applications. It is important to us to find out who you are beyond just your numbers (even if you crushed your exams), so we also invest our time in thoroughly reading the applications we receive. We offer interviews on a rolling basis throughout the interview season based on these reviews and our available dates. We are dedicated to not extending more interview offers than available spots, as we understand this is a stress of source for applicants. In order to accomplish this, we ask that any applicants that receive an interview offer complete their scheduling process within a week of the receiving the invite. If you have a strong interest in our program or ties to the area that are not obvious in your application, we encourage you to reach out to us. This information also helps us plan our interview visits, including showing our applicants around Greenville.

  • Applications are reviewed from September 15th – December 31st
  • We require a completed ERAS form, personal statement, transcript and USMLE or COMLEX scores before we review your application
  • Osteopathic applicants are encouraged but not required to submit USMLE transcripts
  • We require a minimum of three letters of recommendation. These should be from individuals who know you well and are in a position to comment on your skills, abilities, accomplishments and suitability for a residency program. We do not require a chair letter.
  • Some applications may be put on hold until we receive the Medical Student Performance Evaluation/Dean’s Letter

Interview Scheduling and Accommodations:

  • Invitations to interview are sent via email through ERAS
  • Scheduling for interviews is done through the Interview Broker program
  • Interview Dates – Late October through Early January
  • We interview small groups (6 applicants or less per day) so that we get to know each applicant and offer 3 interview days each week (generally on Monday through Thursday)
  • No interviews dates are available during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s or Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  • After you schedule, you will receive a confirmation email with details of the interview visit
  • We provide one night of hotel accommodations and our residents will take the applicant and their spouse/guest out to dinner the evening before the interview day
