John T. Herion, DO

Hometown:  Wilmington, North Carolina
Medical School: Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why I chose Greenville:  During my residency search I was looking for a program that balanced academia and clinical practice in a collegial setting with an appropriate work life balance. I felt then (and still do now) that a program embodying these traits is uniquely positioned to create knowledgeable, confident, and well-rounded physicians. For me, GHS was this program. From the front office to the residents, Program Director and Chair of Medicine, everyone within GHS is genuinely focused on the success of their colleagues. While completing an acting-internship with the medical teaching service, I was immediately impressed with the breadth and depth of pathology I encountered, the teaching faculty with whom I interacted, and the many educational/training opportunities that were presented for the residents and students alike. I am confident that GHS will position me for success in any practice setting or fellowship I choose.

Outside of the training program, Greenville is my mother’s hometown and a place where her/my family still resides. The city has changed tremendously over the past decade to become a hotbed of activity for young professionals. I have lived in nearby Spartanburg for 4 years and can attest to the exciting culture that the city of Greenville offers!
