Kyle J. Cassas, M.D., is a primary care sports medicine specialist with the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. His focus and expertise includes the non-operative care of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries encountered in athletes of all levels. His professional interests include Endurance Athletes (Runners, Cyclists and Triathletes), Concussion, Endurance and Sports Nutrition, Sports Performance and Injury Prevention.

Earning his medical degree from the University of Nevada in 1997, Dr. Cassas then completed a surgical internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He then completed residency training in family medicine at St Paul Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas in 2002. During his fellowship he provided care for athletes at Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, Dallas Baptist University and was also a team physician for Desoto high school. He was also a volunteer physician for the Justin Sportsmedicine team providing care to local and professional rodeo athletes.

Dr. Cassas remained at Charlton Methodist Medical Center after his fellowship and served as associate director of the sports medicine fellowship program, assistant director of the family medicine residency and assistant professor for The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in the Department of Family Medicine. He was actively involved in the education of medical students, family medicine residents, and sports medicine fellows.

Dr. Cassas moved to the Upstate in 2005 to join the Steadman Hawkins team and to start a primary care sports medicine fellowship which he serves as program director. Dr. Cassas has also served as medical director of the GHS Athletic Training Network and as team physician for USC Upstate, North Greenville University, and Greenville county schools such as Berea and Woodmont high school. He has also served as race physician and medical director of the US PRO Cycling Championships held in Greenville, SC.

Dr. Cassas is an active member and Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Southeast Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Affiliate Member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Primary Care Sports Medicine.

Dr. Cassas enjoys spending time with family and is a member of Grace Church in Greenville, SC. He has participated in Medical Mission work traveling with his team to Nicaragua. His hobbies include golf, running, cycling and competing as an age-group triathlete-finisher of the 2010 Augusta 70.3 half-ironman.
