Hometown: Chapin, SC
Medical School: University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Greenville
Why I chose Greenville: I was lucky enough to have spent the past four years here in Greenville for medical school. I went into the residency application process with some fairly large biases: 1) I LOVED my experience here during medical school and 2) my husband is two years behind me in his medical education here in Greenville. My husband and I agreed that I would enter the process with an open mind to make sure I ended up at the right program for the kind of doctor I wanted to be. I wanted to find a program that had both an academically focused environment with a community feel. I wanted to find a hospital that had a patient-centered approach and evidence of ongoing improvement. The attendings needed to be approachable and engaged in resident education. I knew I wanted to practice outpatient primary care, so I needed a program that had a strong clinic experience. But most of all, the residents needed to be “my people.” There were many other things I was looking for, but those were the most important. Greenville checked all of my boxes. As a medical student I felt like a part of the family and was treated as a vital member of the team. As a resident I know that mentality will only strengthen.
As far as the city of Greenville goes, it speaks for itself. We’ve got a little bit of everything and something for everyone. I have absolutely no regrets about choosing to spend the next 3 years here.
