Medical Area of Interest: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Sports Psychiatry
I was born and raised in South Carolina. Growing up I was heavily involved in wrestling and football which is probably where my interests in sports psychiatry come from. I went to USC Columbia for undergraduate school and matriculated into Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in North Carolina. I actually wasn’t that interested in psychiatry until late in my 3rd year of medical school. My psychiatry rotation was switched to virtual 3rd year because of COVID but luckily I was able to have an in-person rotation early in 4th year. After working closely with mental health patients, I knew it was where I needed to be. Being able to help people navigate through mental illness is one of the most challenging but also one of the most rewarding things I have done. I feel so fortunate to be training in Greenville. There are so many unique opportunities here but the residents and faculty are what make this a special place. I moved here with my family and we absolutely love the area. It is so beautiful with countless fun things to do. We enjoy cooking together, finding new splash pads to crash, exploring the gorgeous downtown area, and going to Lake Conestee Nature Preserve.

I was born in near Detroit, MI and went to Michigan State University for my undergraduate studies where I developed an interest in psychiatry. This interest grew during my time at Kansas City University in Joplin, Missouri. It is a very exciting time to be in the field of psychiatry and I am excited by all the opportunities the program here in Greenville has to offer. I’ve been enjoying hiking in the area and checking out the local restaurants since moving here!

Why this program? – There were so many qualities that drew me to rank Prisma Health Greenville as my top choice for Match Day, but chief among them was the relationships I established with the numerous psychiatrics and residents during my clinical rotations in medical school. I had been drawn to psychiatry during the didactic years of medical school, but after working under the excellent attending psychiatrics and personable psych residents, I truly felt that Prisma Health Greenville would serve as a supportive and enriching program to continue my training as a resident following graduation from medical school. The program offered a great deal of variety in terms of exploring a number of different patient populations and treatment modalities and I also felt that the time spent off-service during the PGY-1 year would allow me to become a more well-rounded psychiatrist in the future. Dr. Hudepohl and the residents stressed a “family” aspect to the program which I found very refreshing and, more than anything, I wanted to be a part of that family and train alongside these amazing physicians who have had such a substantial influence on my career path.
Favorite thing to do in Greenville – Downtown Greenville is ranked amongst the best in the nation in terms of sights and sounds (and smells and tastes!). There is always something to do or see, be it exploring Falls Park, trying out some great Persian food at Pomegranate, or getting some ice cream with all the trimmings over at Spill the Beans. Any given day of the week, I assure you that you will never have a boring moment when you’re downtown!

Hi, I’m Autumnn, yes with two n’s! I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, until I ventured out to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at Messiah University for undergrad. I got a dual degree in Biology and Biochemistry, all the while being a DIII college swimmer. I’ve always loved the water ever since I was a child—especially the ocean—and my parents brought us to the Carolina beaches every year for vacation! It was always a dream that I never thought would actually come to fruition for me to one day be able to move down to the sunshine filled Carolinas! Although interviews were virtual and I had never been to Greenville, SC, once I interviewed and met all the wonderful residents and attendings, plus saw one too many gorgeous photos of Greenville, I was hooked! I’m so glad I matched here and get to train and learn at this amazing program and that I was able to move my little family, my husband and two pups, down to Greenville with me! On my time off, you’ll find me exploring new dog parks with our pups, trying out all the new restaurants, hopefully traveling again sometime soon, having game nights or just relaxing at home enjoying the beautiful weather outside!

Goals for the Future: Become a clinician educator and continue my lifelong passion for teaching.
I spent most of my childhood in Milwaukee, WI but have lived here in Greenville for the last 15 years (yes, the heat and humidity was an adjustment!). I went to Wade Hampton High School and attended Bob Jones University, where I studied biology and chemistry. After graduating, I worked at a pathology lab for a year where I met my wife. I was accepted to USCSOMG during that time, and on my way home from work I would pass by the medical school every day. Little did I know that I was also passing by my future place of employment as a resident physician at Prisma Health in the department of psychiatry! My wife and I are thrilled to have matched here. We love the small city vibes of Greenville and are grateful to be staying close to both of our families. Outside of medicine, you’ll find me playing local disc golf courses, starting more projects than I can finish, and constantly and unapologetically referencing Lord of the Rings.
