Greer Psychiatry Residency Overview

The Greer Psychiatry Residency Program is a 4-year ACGME accredited training program with 8 residents per year at the Center for Psychiatry on the Greer Memorial Hospital campus in Greer, South Carolina.  The program is housed on the Greer Memorial Hospital campus alongside Neurology and Family Medicine in a newly constructed and custom-designed medical facility exclusively for and dedicated to the teaching mission. The program is administered by a program director and six additional core faculty, along with assistance from community physicians and licensed mental health care professionals.

The focus of the Greer Psychiatry Residency Program is the training and retention of psychiatric physicians to address the current and ongoing provider shortages in this critical medical specialty, especially in rural areas of the Upstate. Integrating care with family medicine and other medical specialties, while partnering with community providers of mental health services, will improve access to psychiatric care and reduce utilization of emergency and inpatient services.   The fully integrated model, with primary care, employs telepsychiatry to consult in real time with rural practices.  There is also integration with other mental health care providers of social work, counseling, and psychology.  A dedicated data analyst for the training program assists with value-based decisions, performance management, quality improvement, and research activities.

This residency enjoys the full support of its sponsoring institution, Prisma Health and University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.
