Southeastern Symposium on Mental Health

Since 2016, the Prisma Health Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine has hosted the annual Southeastern Symposium on Mental Health in Greenville, SC. This symposium provides an opportunity for stakeholders, caregivers, academicians, healthcare professionals, and community partners to collaborate across disciplines in order to foster dialogue and promote awareness of current trends in mental health treatment, practice, and research to achieve equity for mental health outcomes.

The symposium has featured a number of notable regional and national mental health keynote and plenary speakers in the past. Keynote speakers from the 2019 Southeastern Symposium included Drew Pinksy, M.D., host of Dr. Drew Midday Live on KABC, Antwone Fisher, best-selling author and screenwriter; Herschel Walker, legendary football player and Heisman trophy recipient; Daniel Rodriguez, Purple Heart Recipient and former Clemson football player; and Robert K. Heinssen, Ph.D., ABPP, Director of the Division of Services and Intervention Research at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Residents are encouraged to submit their research abstracts and posters to present at the symposium. Registration fees are covered for all residents, and residents are relieved of their daytime clinical duties in order to attend.
